What a wild and crazy two weeks it has been. I know many of you, like me, are concerned, confused and wanting to fight for what is right and the freedoms we so dearly value in this country. I have been doing what I can to get involved locally to try and effect change and urge you all to do the same. But this past weekend I needed to let loose. One of my very best friends from college came to visit me, the first of my girlfriends to check out the new bachelorette pad and explore the streets of BK with me.
On Saturday, we took our slightly hungover selves over to the 1st annual Best of Brooklyn Festival at Industry City, a unique warehouse complex full of food and retail shops, with an awesome outdoor seating area by the water that must be fabulous come spring and summer. I was glad we paid the extra few bucks for the Early Bird tickets to skip the line, because there were hundreds of people there and the line wrapped around several corridors. But we breezed right by and got to enjoy some fantastic beers from all of the local BK breweries and sample food from many of the restaurants that were all…you guessed it…the Best of Brooklyn.
The tiny beer mugs they gave out were adorable and also the perfect size for a non-beer drinker like me. I certainly have a new appreciation for microbrews and IPA’s, with my favorite being the Overpass IPA (6.2% alcohol!) from the Coney Island Brewery, which I will most definitely be checking out. The hipster vibes and dope beats spun by female DJ’s looking bossy AF filled the room and made for a fun-filled afternoon with my ladies. We ate and drank our way through that food hall, sampling the best pizza, tacos (the steak was to die for) and Asian noodles that BK has to offer, and certainly got our money’s worth.
Me & My Girlssss
True story
Ok, no joke these were some of the best Asian noodles I’ve ever had. And the deliciousness on the right is a veggie pancake with shaved pork on top. The brown sauce they added was perfection and the pickled relish was the cherry on top. My only gripe is these lovely ladies of Oconomi are in LIC and don’t deliver. I will be making a special trip there, that’s for sure.
