New Apartment, Who Dis?

It’s been 18 months since I started my adventure in Brooklyn (time flies when you’re having fun!) and I’m finally moving to a new apartment. What started as a 1 month Airbnb turned into a place I called home  for much longer than expected, but I loved every minute of my time living there in Park Slope. That place taught me how to be a strong, independent woman. I learned so much about myself and what I wanted out of life and I was determined to not let anything or anyone stand in the way of my happiness ever again. That place was my jumping off point for this amazing journey in Brooklyn, but it was time for me to find a place of my own and really put some roots down here, which is also what my horoscope said should be happening for Aries this month. And as quickly as I made the decision to move (before I even knew my horoscope), things all started falling into place.

I was lucky this was one of the first places I looked at and I jumped on it, since good apartments go really quick in NYC. My real estate broker and landlord are all good people, which made the whole process feel right, although it did cost a fortune as moving usually does. I’m still in the process of moving everything in and unpacking but it’s already feeling like home. It’s a blank canvas that I’m excited to make my own. As I type this, I’m looking out one of the many windows that allow lots of natural light in. It reminds me  a bit of Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment and the way she used to looked out over the street as she typed at her desk. I love my block. It’s fairly quiet since it doesn’t get much car or pedestrian traffic. The brownstones are all so pretty, each one a bit different. Another check off the Brooklyn bucket list since previously I was living in a row home.

There’s something about this place that drew me to it. I feel an abundance of good energy when I’m here and I’m really looking forward to getting to know this area and the surrounding neighborhoods. There’s so much I can walk or ride my bike to, from Brooklyn Bridge Park to DUMBO and yes, even the infamous Whole Foods that was featured on Broad City. I’m just waiting to run into Abbi and Ilana on the streets, since I did sit at the table across from Jake Gyllenhaal at one of my favorite pizza places, Lucali. My Restaurant bucket list continues to grow and will be updated here more frequently under the Food section.

The Adventures of April continue as I find chic and frugal ways to decorate my new apartment. Here are the before pics…

I have a feeling that the best is yet to come.

XoX,

Avril
